Common solar question answered

We just wrapped up the 2016 Montrose Home and Garden Expo and I thought I would share one of the most common questions we were asked regarding a Grid Tied Solar system

Question: What does the Solar run? 

Answer: It really does not run anything, but rather offsets the overall KWH usage. Imagine a large air conditioner when running is consuming a huge amount of electrical energy. The beauty of solar is that when the air conditioner is not running the solar system will be generating an excess to try to offset the energy usage. Many appliances or pumps have a high instantaneous demand when running for short periods, so rather than sizing a system large enough to power the loads directly, the Grid Tied system will offset the energy over time.
